Stone statue of standing Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara

Unearthed in Qin′an County, Gansu Province
Preserved in Gansu Provincial Museum
This stone statue of standing Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara looks pretty with round face, crescent moon like eyebrow, slightly drooping eyes, high-bridge nose, thin lips and long neck. It wears a three-ring-type crown of which there is one small sculpture of Buddha in the front ring, nothing on the upper part of the body, bracelet, armlet, necklace, long skirt on the lower part of the body, long intersected ornaments over the chest and shawl hanging from the shoulders down to the knee then rolling around arm. It stands respectfully and silently raising right arm to the shoulder side while carrying one thing in right hand, left arm drooping down while holding bottle of pure water in left hand.
Sculptures of the Sui Dynasty becomes vivid, gentle and kind. This stone statue of standing Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara is a high-quality Buddhist statue of the Sui Dynasty with coordinating and well balanced body proportion and qualitative feeling skin.
